Calder Cup Playoffs

2016

Virtual reality has many potential uses that have not been explored. In the case of sports, while there has been plenty of experimentation, the practical application of VR has not yet been fully realized. Greenfish attended the Calder Cup Playoffs and filmed the Hershey Bears match against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers as part of our effort to discover and develop VR’s capabilities within the realm of sports.

We were able to capture 360 video of the match from a vantage point that provided privileged access of the players benches as well as placing the viewer right against the ice in the center of the rink. We also experimented with capturing different angles and viewpoints using live switching, making us one of the very first companies to use this technology in VR.

The Hershey Bears are a professional ice hockey team based out of Hershey, Pennsylvania and they serve as the primary development club for the NHL’s Washington Capitals.
